The Creation of Change

The Creation of Change

I tend to divert my topics of interest from reflection of the self and things happening around us.

These few years, Ive been trying to be both more self aware mentally as well as more aware with my surroundings.

I personally struggle with words and expressing myself so I turn to  art to capture what I'm thinking.

This was one of my proudest and most labor intensive piece I created as a conclusion to the topic I was exploring :  "Change".

Here I explored the idea of bringing "change" to society through our actions and being genuine to the good instead of "doing good for the sake of doing good".

The piece's title is a parody on the "Creation of Adam" which is such an iconic piece detailing the creation of Man. However, it is solely focusing on the importance of the white male and implies how the world was made for a man. I wanted to challenge this idea through the appropriation of the name as well as leaving the baby blank.

I researched and deepened my understanding on different religions and cultures  as I aimed to include a wide range of ethnicities/cultural historical figures in this piece to speak about the importance of inclusitivioty and representation in such a west dominated world ( especially when it comes to powerful/ authoritative figures). Here, I included people who I thought are influential especially in today's society such as Princess Diana, Confucius, Greta Thunberg, Malala....

The frame in this piece is made from clay, which I had sculpted every  and the long labor it took to finish it by hand symbolises the effort and hardships we may need to overcome make a change to the world or yourself.
